The director has shredded, eaten, digested, shat out, and rearranged Terence Malik, Stanley Kubrick, Fellini - who in turn saw Sergei Parajanov - who in turn saw Tarkovsky or not - because it looks like all the elements are in there, composed into something completely new and unique, which, like an amoeba, changes its shape completely every time you look at it.
